Two trick pony

I realize that my posts have become about only two things -- work and gaming -- recently. Unfortunately, that's pretty much all I'm doing these days. I get wound up at work and then go home and decompress with games. The upside is that we'll have lots and lots of unlocked Rock Band songs the next time someone wants to come over and play.

I have nothing prepared for KASF. No new clothes, no new music, no new artifacts. I'll be singing with Alle Psallite and jamming with the Ravenstreet Singers, of course, but nothing solo. I feel rather meh about the SCA right now. I love my office, but I don't really want to go to events and think about all the nasty politics going on. Honestly? I think my next SCA event after this weekend will be Pennsic.

We'll miss you but I understand where you're coming from.

[identity profile] melaniesuzanne.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll miss y'all, too. And who knows? My batteries may recharge in another month or two and I could come out of seclusion. :)

[identity profile] caemfind.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be good because I'm not making it to Pennsic this year so can't visit with you.

[identity profile] belfebe.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey girl. Not a problem. I, for one, find your entries always entertaining.

See you at KASF!

[identity profile] melaniesuzanne.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, hon. :) I'm looking forward to how awesome KASF will be!

[identity profile] pirategirleee.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs*

Hey I'm right there with you. I think my next event will be Pennsic as well. I still want to go with you to KASF this weekend. I'll see if I can get in touch with you later about the details. I just want to chill out Saturday. I'm working on a project but it may not be finished by Saturday.

[identity profile] melaniesuzanne.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course! Cassie is going to ride up with us as well. I need to do a little research about how long it will take to get to the site and when Hubbyfink is going to start teaching his classes and then I'll send out an email with departure times. :)

[identity profile] greta-k.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, there are no really direct routes from our side of the universe to the event. I think the Navigator was planning on going up Rt. 28 to the Toll Rd, then over to Rt. 15. From Frederick, I think he was going to take I-70 East, and get off and go North just before running into I-695 and Baltimore.

Mapquest was trying to tell me to go I-66 East to I-495, then I-270 and somehow onto Georgia Ave, through Olney and, basically, B.F.E., to some spot north of I-70 and West of Baltimore. WTF?!?

I'm with you on the political crap. Someone Make It STOP!!!

[identity profile] shalandara.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I used to live in Olney, and yes, GA Ave up north to Westminster is a good way to go. But I-270 to GA Ave (Rt 97?) is a bit odd.

[identity profile] dr-zrfq.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
From this side of the universe there are two routes that appear to recommend themselves:

1. I-270 to exit 16, MD-27 (Father Hurley Blvd/ Ridge Rd); turn right on 27 north (Ridge Rd). At Damascus, make sure to turn left to stay on 27 north. See *** below.

2. US-15 north from Leesburg up to the far side of Frederick; take exit 17 for MD-26 east. Stay on 26 east for about 16 miles to Taylorsville, then turn left on MD-27 north. (Or, go to Frederick, get on I-70 east, and take that to Mount Airy and route 27 north.) See *** below.

***27 takes you all the way to Westminster; shortly before hitting town turn right on Kate Wagner Rd, first left on Gist Rd, then eventually turn left onto the new road into the parking lot.

Yes. Choice #2 with taking 70 to 27 is the route Googlemaps gave me. We'll compare that with the Prius' GPS and Scott's knowledge of the area Saturday morning.

[identity profile] dr-zrfq.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
26 is a pretty drive and not seriously longer than I-70 unless you get caught behind a slowpoke. I'd be interested to know what the GPS thinks.

From further south (i.e. our place) it makes more sense to use choice #1 unless we have a significant reason to hit Sterling, Leesburg, or Frederick on the way. Traffic isn't likely to be much of an issue late Sat. morning.

[identity profile] greta-k.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
OHHH! Thank you, oh wonderous one. Your directional fu is great (an "fu" is a good thing in this context :-)

[identity profile] dr-zrfq.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
*grin* This is what I get for having friends who live just down the hill from the site. (Whom I am looking forward to seeing on Saturday. Including the Now Even More Dangerous Than Ever 15-month-old girlchild. I wonder if she's talking yet.)

By "politics" do you mean the current unpleasantness that the Atlantian Peers are dealing with, or something else? My barony has been fairly drama-free lately, except for finding people to take various deputy officer positions (and we *always* need MoLs).

[identity profile] melaniesuzanne.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the Kingdom-level stuff. It's rather heart-breaking, really.

[identity profile] alphasarah.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
that right there is why M is giving up his (local) office when his term is up or as soon as his replacement is trained, whichever comes first. For the past ... six or so years, his SCA activities have been all about politics and running things and it's just not FUN anymore. And if it ain't fun, you're doing it wrong.

So... my sympathies on the politics... that stuff sucks.

[identity profile] melaniesuzanne.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Luckily the politics aren't affecting anything in the exchequer office; I suppose I should count my blessings. :)

"my next SCA event after this weekend will be Pennsic"...but we'll miss you.

Easy-peasy way to deal with this is don't go to royal progress events. My opinion is that most peers are tired of this and would like to have an enjoyable event without the kerfuffle.

[identity profile] melaniesuzanne.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true. We'll see what happens in the next couple of months. I'd miss y'all, too.

[identity profile] greta-k.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to avoid RP events as much as possible. Life is much more enjoyable that way. However, some of them are unavoidable for me :-(

[identity profile] tattycat.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Drop by and have some chocolate! I am dealing the Spanish crack at KASF this year, and intend to maintain a strict politics-free zone.

[identity profile] tattycat.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
And. And and. I just got a shipment of BPAL with a handful of imps. Wanna sniff? ;)

[identity profile] melaniesuzanne.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
YES.

:)

[identity profile] wombatgirl.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Just so long as you *do* go to Pennsic and I get to see you there! (When you're on the every other year schedule like me, I have to plan these things!)

[identity profile] melaniesuzanne.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm definitely going to Pennsic! Gotta see my Gr-fink. :)

Were you thinking about every-other-year Gulf Wars attendance, too? I may start going next year.

[identity profile] wombatgirl.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I've had a lot of people tell me I should go to Gulf Wars. Maybe I should plan for next year for that. Hrm...

[identity profile] melaniesuzanne.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Hrm. This is me rubbing my hands together Monty Burns-like and thinking, "Eeeexcellent."

[identity profile] dawnhutchings.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Gulf Wars is the best war ever! :)

[identity profile] bronx-baroness.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It is. And alas, Ivan being under employed means that this year, I will have to miss it.

[identity profile] dawnhutchings.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
There have been a bunch of events in a row. No wonder your burned out.

[identity profile] dr-zrfq.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Right now I have exactly one Atlantian event on my calendar between KASF and Pennsic... Sapphire Joust, and that happens only if a friend from Calontir can make it here for that weekend.

Part of this is because I can't take the time to go to certain events I might otherwise like to attend... and part is because I have family and other things that will have me going out of kingdom several times between now and then.

[identity profile] bronx-baroness.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Notice how many events I've been to since, oh, April of last year LOL!!! It's just easier taking care of business at home and doing the things I like doing that don't make me want to resort to heavy application of single malt or popping antidepressants.

It's actually kind of nice not being in the Hub of Gossip (tm). Rest and when the inclination strikes you, return with joy. That's what I plan on doing.

Special on burnt toast?

[identity profile] psalite.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Seems like a lot of us are right there with you.Right now I almost feel like I wish I could get out of this weekend as well and unfortuently I am stuck with blood bath too.Pensic? I can't even think about it :(
