Watch the skies
May. 12th, 2010 04:16 pmThat's what Margie's doing. When she and Oreo aren't chasing each other around the house like crazed weasels, that is. I don't like how still and heavy the air is, and the pressure is hurting my ears. I'm ready for the storm to break (which should be any minute now if the Weather Channel is to be believed).
The truck is sporting her new plates. Now I need to carve out some time to turn in the older plates and GPFINK plates to the DMV.
My Droid Incredible arrived this afternoon and is charging up. It's so pretty and I can't wait to play with it. Hubbyfink's looking forward to playing with it as well so he can decide if that's the direction he wants to go when he gets rid of his Blackberry.
I've got costuming ideas bubbling in my brain and will probably fire
pippas_projects back up in a week or two as I dissect the dress depicted in this 1495 drawing by Albrecht Durer. The back of the dress has a similar construction to those depicted in Gentile Bellini's art; although, most of the women in Bellini's pictures are in the background and it is difficult to determine the construction. But anyway, thinking about this style of dress is my current diversion from slipping directly to sleep when I crawl into bed.

A taste of things to come
Aug. 31st, 2009 12:48 pmOh my gosh, y'all! Have you been outside? It is GLORIOUS! I have the windows that I can raise* open and the kitties are happily basking in the cool breezes. Unfortunately, I did have to drop the living room window because Margie somehow escaped under the screen to the Great Outdoors. I'm thankful that I noticed her disappearance so quickly.

*Several windows are still stuck shut post-painting. Grr.

It's too cold for the pool
May. 19th, 2009 09:53 amI hear that my buddies at home had a frost warning last night. It's been downright chilly here in the mid-south since Saturday night. I'm so glad I brought a couple pairs of jeans and a sweater. We're supposed to be back in the mid-80s tomorrow or Thursday and both Hubbyfink and I are looking forward to the heat. It's been too chilly for him to hang out in the Florida room and read; that's his favorite thing to do when we visit and it was way too cold for that during our Christmas visit.
Last night Hubbyfink,
zipmeister and I helped
beaznuts move boxes from his storage unit to the new apartment. The apartment is gorgeous and has a similar layout to Hubbyfink's and my old apartment. Beaz and wife will live on the ground floor and overlook a lake full of wildlife. I got to work on my fear of duck teeth last night. There's a family of mallards with four puffy baby ducklings who live near the tree at the edge of the lake. They introduced themselves to us as we lazed on Beaz's patio. (Okay,
pirategirleee, baby ducks are pretty darn cute.) But then we heard a nasally honk from not too far away. A family of geese with seven poofy baby goslings waddled up and made a beeline for the patio, the parents hissing at us the whole time. We hissed back. Beaz ran inside for a moment and returned with a bag of Cheez-Its. Who knew that ducks and geese liked Cheez-Its? Those ducklings were adorable as they'd barrel down the yard for a cracker and then get startled away from a gosling which was twice their size.
I'm no longer afraid of duck teeth. Goose tongues, however, are a completely different matter. *shudder*.
Beaz's wife (his wife!) made us a thank-you dinner while Beaz forced us to watch "Dancing with the Stars" and "The Bachelorette". Now I understand what kind of people keep those shows on the air.

As promised
Apr. 17th, 2009 12:06 pmThe door and windows are open and the kitties are very happy. I don't think Basil's left the dining room window sill since I opened it two hours ago. Margie's roaming from kitchen window sill to living room sill to dining room siull to storm door and back, with occassional stops on the sofa to snooze on my thigh. Our dogwood tree has finally burst into bloom; my view through the living room window includes a canopy of yellow-green dogwood blossoms and the remnants of pink cherry blossoms on the neighbor's tree. Glorious.
It's a little chilly in the house and I'm wrapped in a blanket. I'm a very happy camper.
My boss is officially on vacation in a couple of hours and I've already proved my mettle to his boss a few times this morning. Ah, it's so good to feel effective again. Yesterday and today's work experiences have made up for the whole week.
