All's well in river city
Aug. 29th, 2008 11:30 pmGot to Memphis at 1:41pm CST.
zipmeister retrieved me from the airport and ferried me to the hospital when I got to meet my beautiful nephew Charlie Bear. He's got Chris' nose, Mimi's lips and a head full of blond hair, and he sighs and mumbles to himself as he sleeps. He is 8 pounds 9 ounces and 20 inches long. Mimi is exhausted and spacey from the painkillers, but otherwise happy and deleriously in love with her baby.
We all left the hospital when the nurse came by for a private consultation. We needed to leave, anyway, so my folks could get food ready for tailgating before tonight's Germantown HS football game. My baby brother is the star kicker and, since I'm in the neighborhood, I had to see him play.
( A little backstory: )It. was. AWESOME. I'm very proud of my baby brother.
beaznuts is also proud of him, but also a little disgusted. He told Mom last week that John is one of those guys that he hated in high school because of the BMOC worship. John's taking it in stride. When Mom asked him if he was nervous before kicking, John said, "No. I know what I'm supposed to do and I do it."
I also got to visit with my old band director. I'm kind of sad that I haven't kept in touch with any band friends so I can let them know that Mr. Byrd is still directing.
Tomorrow, Mom and I are cleaning Mimi and Chris' house so it's sparkly and shiny when they come home with the Bear on (hopefully) Sunday. Mimi really wants us to come back to the hospital and keep her company. I think we'll be visiting before and after the cleaning frenzy. Mom and I also have a date with margaritas in the pool.
Oh, and, it was odd realizing that it's been eighteen years since I was last in those bleachers. Wow.
