Moral compass

I wasn't watching my actions in "Fallout 3" and now I've wound up with an evil character. Okay, not evil, very evil. I've reached the Level 8 Reaver achievement.* I'm torn about this.

I mean, on the one hand it's made getting into Paradise Falls a WHOLE lot easier. The folks there actually get out of my character's way. And the notoriety from Three Dog's warning people about me in every other newsbreak is kind of fun. On the other hand, I'm not an evil person. I do have a mean streak and enjoy ye olde schadenfruede a bit too much, but I (me, Melanie) am Lawful Good/Lawful Neutral. My character has turned out Chaotic Evil. She's still doing good deeds for people but I'm tempted not to complete those "good" quests. I've taken to hunting down Regulators so I can fix/upgrade my gear. And I'd very much like to wipe out the town of Arefu simply because one of the town's protectors shot at me; I turned him into dust with my laser pistol.

This kind of stuff keeps me up at night (for about 30 minutes, anyway). Hubbyfink sort of helped. He reminded me that I am not my character; although, he wouldn't be able to play an evil character. He suggested I take a break and play "Gears of War" instead since there are no moral quandries and you can shoot anything that moves without repercussion (aside from return fire).

"I don't think so," I replied. "I mean, I can drink blood (from blood packs, not people) to restore health, but I haven't resorted to cannibalism yet."
