When you last saw your intrepid heroine, she had fallen for a little orange tabby named Pumpkin and was going to spend time with him again on Monday before finalizing the adoption. Well, Hubbyfink and I drove to the shelter and fell for a different cat while waiting for someone to retrieve a sleepy Pumpkin from his cage and bring him to a playroom. To be honest, we'd been feeling a little bit of unease about Pumpkin after that initial burst of excitement and neither of us could put our fingers on what was wrong. The best I can come up with for myself is that whoever we adopt is going to wind up being Margie's replacement and that cat needs to be just right. For some reason, Pumpkin just wasn't filling that spot.
Enter Oreo. He's a long-bodied, long-legged black and white cat with feet the size of silver dollars. He's got big, round green eyes and a white racing stripe down his right side. He's chatty and inquisitive, eleven pounds, and one year old. It took a few minutes for him to warm up to us in the playroom but then the head-buttings and purrs started up. Neither Hubbyfink nor I felt any reservations about Oreo. His vet appointment is scheduled for Thursday. We get to bring him home afterwards.
I promise to post photos. I'm waiting for the photos I emailed from my phone to show up in my gmail.
