The trip up was uneventful. Hubbyfink and I caravanned with [livejournal.com profile] psalite and Cassie. We played the is-that-vehicle-going-to-Land-Grab game and feel pretty comfortable with our guesses. We crossed paths with [livejournal.com profile] smiep and A in Breezewood and passed Flaithri at Somerset.(*)

We got through Troll much more quickly than last year, but still had time to eat lunch on the battlefield. Hubbyfink and I got the pavilion roof up and secure just before a big storm blew in. We were hanging out under our roof, making sure the floor tarp stayed rolled up over the rest of the canvas, when a huge gust blew Cassie's center pole finial and high wind lines off which then toppled her roof. We raced over to her tent and helped hold up corner poles for the rest of the storm. I hollered to Hubbyfink, "Okay, I've had enough Pennsic! I'm ready to go home now!" The skies finally cleared and we continued setting up through periods of dry and wet. Good times.

Hubbyfink, Cassie, [livejournal.com profile] psalite, and I went out for dinner and a quick shopping trip at Ollie's and Home Depot and then spent the rest of the evening in camp visiting with Missy Anne and Tirloch. I thought we'd have nooooo trouble falling asleep that night.

The june bugs are out in force and were all over the inside of our pavilion. They're apparently very clumsy because they kept falling on us and crawling through our hair. UGH. We finally moved to the car around 1:30am. Hubbyfink always says that part of the reason why he got the Prius is because it had enough room in the back so that he could sleep in there if the weather at a reenactment event went bad. Unfortunately, two people can't sleep back there. And I couldn't sleep sitting up in the front seat. After tossing and turning for an hour, I grabbed a sheet and went back to battle bugs. A flashlight, a broom, and stomping shoes put a serious dent in the bug population (Hubbyfink was amazed by the level of carnage he found when he entered the tent later in the morning) and, after donning my hoodie (ear protection!), I was able to pass out for a few hours.

Sunday was hard with so little sleep, and the four of us who had come up on Saturday had the worst of it. [livejournal.com profile] psalite was also kept up by bugs and Cassie wound up sleeping in her van thanks to air bed failure. We got the dining tent up and purchased paid parking tags before retrieving camp infrastructure from the storage unit. Hubbyfink played the part of Sir Aelfred by doing a fantastic job of packing the truck while we pulled stuff out of the unit. Back in camp, the kitchen tent went up pretty quickly and the dorm tent was the last structure to go up. Looking back, I still can't figure out why it took us so long to get everything up except that we had to take a lot of breaks because we were all so sleep deprived.

Hubbyfink and I left at 3:30p and got home five hours later. A shower, a little dinner, some "True Blood" (I have to wait two weeks to find out what's going to happen???), and we happily passed out without child restraint system latches digging into our back or bugs crawling in our hair.

(*)I noticed a vehicle with VA tags pulling trailer and looked at the driver. I asked Hubbyfink if Flaithri was coming up for Land Grab. He didn't think so. I asked what F drives. When he told me, I said that was the vehicle that pulled in behind us. Sure enough, it was him. He joined our little caravan for a while, but we lost him at the toll lanes for Cranberry.
