It just hit me

I just figured out why I'm so nuts about collecting perfume. I love the various memories and images the scents trigger in my mind.

I got a perfume this week (Clarimonde) that reminds me of the dressing room my Aunt Trish had when I was a kid. When I sniff the oil on my wrist, it feels like I've sneaked into her room to look at her perfume bottles and cosmetics. The smell of hairspray still hangs in the air because Trisha and Mom were doing their hair only a little while ago. There's a little bit of powder and a green-floral scent which is the mixture of aromas from Trisha's perfume collection plus a little bit of humid Floridian air.

It's too bad the perfume is turning to powdery death on my skin. I loved those few minutes of being transported back to childhood.

I've been studying too hard this summer, my first reaction to this post was that I know why, at a neurological level, scents trigger memories.

:) And people say things you learn in school don't carry over to real life. Pfft.

I only learned it a few weeks ago. While I was in MN for my best friend's birthday, whenever that was. This summer is seriously mushing together on me.

Smell memories are supposed to be pretty strong ones. I tried on a perfume last week called Kai. It reminds me of high school. Probably because I had stick perfumes from Avon then that were honey suckle and lily of the valley. Kai isn't those exactly but for some reason it evokes that time for me. Needless to say, I like it! I'm 17 again. Young and foolish and full of energy.

Scent memories ARE strong ... reading this I was carried back to the perfume my mother used to wear for special occasions. Arpege? Something by Lanvin, anyway. Can you use this one as a room scent?

Hmmm scent reminding you of childhood memories. LOL..maybe that's why perfumes always give me migranes! :D
