More BPAL mutterings

...as I listen to a conference call.
After my surprising experience with Midnight Kiss, I decided to give two unloved scents -- The Darkling Thrush and Order of the Dragon: The Carpathian Mountains -- another go. The Darkling Thrush (warm amber, soft orris, and melancholy violet) went from smelling like a standard drugstore perfume to a glorious amber and violet blend. I loooooove this scent and can't stop sniffing my arm. Always a good sign.
The Carpathian Mountains (Scottish fir, beech, cembra and mugho pine, rhododendron, currant, honeysuckle, raspberry leaf, dwarf juniper, sedge, meadow grass, snowdrop, rose bay, lily of the valley, starwort, lichen and mosses), on the other hand, is nastier on the skin than it is in the bottle. In the bottle, and wet on the skin, it smells like my high school saxophone case. All resiny and wintergreen. Yuck! It continued smelling that way for about thirty minutes until it turned into raspberry soap. Now, raspberries are okay, but this is really frothy and... soapy. This bottle needs to go away.

Date: 2008-09-25 03:08 am (UTC)I love the BPAL violet scents I've tried... The Raven and Wings of Azrael. The Raven is very uncomplicated oil-wise, but the combination of neroli and violet note is fascinating to my nose.
I also LOVE their Dragon's Blood. And Pride.
Oh, and if you're going to buy something for the Hubbyfink, two-thumbs-up to Villain and Vicomte de Valmont. ::swoon::
