I might have occasionally been known to intentionally change what I was buying off the Wendy's dollar menu such that the total came to $6.66*. Just being randomly perverse, that and I like doing the tax in my head to be sure it'll work out right. Though I must admit I never actually got a squeak; a couple laughs and surprised looks. Maybe next time I do it I should go get some of those satyr-esque horns, might help get a squeak ;P
*I think it was Wendy's, at one of the fast food places I had it mapped such that if I got x items of y price and x items of z price, then I'd end up at $6.66. It's been a year since I've been to a fast food restaurant in the states, so kind of fuzzy which one it was now... ::shrug::
There used to be a spur off of Route 66 numbered US 666 (being the sixth spur route). Sadly, it has been renumbered after some locals got their knickers in a twist about it. Idiots. Now it's US 491.
I read somewhere (or saw on tv somewhere , most likely the History Channel) that the mile markers on some states skip the 66.6 marking since the signs get stolen almost as fast as they get replaced. I don't know if there is a highway out there with a 666 mile marker -- maybe one of the western states that are larger?
I-10 in Texas, for sure. It has mile markers at the eastern end that start with an 8 followed by two digits. The first exit just across the Sabine River from Louisiana is the welcome center, exit 890.
I-20 appears to miss by less than 25 miles. There might be some US routes in Texas that make that grade as well.
