It's been a month since my last SCA event,* and I feel rejuvenated and excited about attending events again. Looking at the calendar, and factoring in familial obligations and whatnot, it looks like my next opportunity for an event is the combo Novice Tourney/Challenge of the Heart in June.

I have grand thoughts of bringing a day shade and furniture and food to provide hospitality to friends and passers-by. We shall see if any of that comes to fruition. I do want a shelter that is easier to schlep and erect than my pavilion. I think maybe something along the lines of the shade fly [livejournal.com profile] ballistabob and [livejournal.com profile] geoffreyapclywd made which we all used at last year's Night on the Town. Hrm... more plotting and planning required.

*Heh, that almost felt like a confession. Forgive me, Father...

Join us on Artisans Row? My main goal is to make it centrally located. And I *really* want to encourage folks to spiff up their spaces – you’d be a perfect example. :-D

You know, the galleries that [livejournal.com profile] murieldechimay had at Pennsic were quite nice, and very easy to put up and take down. She’s sold them in the past, and she might be willing to geek with you on them. I seem to remember that the fabric was very lightweight, since it was really just for shade.

*nod* That's exactly the type of set up I'm thinking about, minus the fabric half wall in the leftmost galleries. They look fairly simple. Of course, looks could be extremely deceiving. ;)

We are in the process of building a new dayshade of lighter canvass. The painters tarp was very bulky/heavy to transport.

Where did y'all get the new canvas?

The beige canvas is also now green, red, orange, yellow, purple - pretty much most of the colors in which mold comes :-P

i think belfebe is ordering the canvas from dharma trading. if you catch her before she orders it, you could probably go in with us and save on shipping....

Thanks for the heads-up! I'm waiting for a response from a friend who has made these before to see what material she used before I order anything.

If you find out, would you be willing to enlighten the rest of us? The galleries are just gorgeous!

Here are the fabrics my friend [livejournal.com profile] murieldechimay has used for galleries:
- first gallery was a medium-weight poly "duck". It packed light and dried quickly. She wasn't "offended" by it, but she probably wouldn't go that route again.
- other galleries have been made from heavy cotton.

She says that if she were to make another gallery for herself, she would use natural color linen canvas. None of the galleries she's made have been waterproofed.

She cautions to stay away from red fabric. She says that when sun shines through red fabric, it taints everything below with a red shade which is uncomfortable on the eyes.
