I couldn't sleep last night and wandered into the craft room to burn off some brain activity. I pulled out the stencils and staged them along the day shade valance to see which ones tickled my fancy. Then, because it wasn't too, too late yet, I pulled out a scrap piece of canvas, some paint, and a stencil brush and went to work.

So. Much. Fun. And so very quick and fairly easy. The paint was a bit too watery on the first design, but just about perfect on the second one. I'm going to do more experimentation on scrap before I set paint to day shade, but I think this is really going to spiff up the little shelter. I will have to stay focused and not rush through the painting, though; that's going to be the hard part. What, me? Methodical and patient? Surely you jest!

In other news, Hubbyfink owns the Prius. The title arrived yesterday about the same time he dropped the car at the dealership so they could figure out what was causing his display panel to light up and stay lighted up. Mmmm, the irony, it burns. So, he's in the Jeep -- which was not in the repair shop the same day I got its title lo these many years ago -- and I get to work from home again with a Margie pressed against my leg.

One of my projects for Pennsic is a clothes rack. I borrowed [livejournal.com profile] carthew's clothes rack last Pennsic and it made digging through my wardrobe so. much. easier. I couldn't remember the exact height of the boards, unfortunately, but I had a rough remembrance that they didn't tower over my 5'6" self and they were slightly shorter than the pavilion's 6' eave when in clothes rack position. I also didn't know the degree of the angle at the top. What to do?

I then remembered this picture. Ha ha! That basket on the ground is 22" long and there's another 6" or so from the bottom of the basket to the rack leg on either side. Alrighty. I've got an isoceles triangle with a height of six feet and a base of 34". But I still don't know the angles. How the heck am I going to figure out how long to make the sides??

After prowling the web for assistance in finding the length of isoceles triangle sides and not remembering how to figure out tangents, I found a site which suggested splitting the triangle in half. Oh my gosh, of course! And then I can use the Pythagorean theorem to determine the length of my clothing rack boards.

Sheesh. You know, if only we'd been shown the practical applications for geometry (oh, my poor pool game) and trig, I'd have kept up my interest in the higher maths. Maybe. :)

Hubbyfink's W2 arrived last night; I can do our taxes tonight. Mmm... new windows and (hopefully) carpet.

[livejournal.com profile] bittibuddha's Arty Party was a smashing success. I not only got to spend the evening surrounded by fabulous women and funny men, I also nearly finished my-gay-husband-Tom's second hose leg. He's only been waiting on this for a couple of years. *headdesk* But I got into a rhythm and got that sucker's machine stitches picked out and hand-sewn back up. *rawr* If she keeps hosting these gatherings, Hubbyfink might actually wind up with some new SCA/living history clothes.

Hubbyfink scared the living daylights out of me this morning. I was asleep and about to roll over when I opened my eyes and a giant face was hovering directly over mine. I think I shrieked; I know I jumped. He apologized and kissed me good-bye. I promptly fell back asleep. Scary Hubbyfink.

It's been a super slow workday. I bundled up the laptop and "worked" in the craft room for a couple of hours. The top hat is complete, including a new lining which keeps it from sliding down my head. The mini hat is just about complete. I would have pictures of both except my camera battery and the two spares are all dead. Hmph.

I took in the waistband of my trained skirt and it now fits beautifully. And since all the projects went well, I decided to tackle taking in the seams on the jacket. Oh my goodness. I'm so proud of how that project turned out, I could dance a jig. Who knew alterations could be so easy?

Hopefully a battery or two will be charged enough this evening so I can snap a couple of pictures.

The red scarf project is complete and looks pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. I cut a half-yard length of red velvetish dead dinosaur in half, sewed two short ends together, sewed fringe on the other two short ends, then sewed it into a tube. Et voila! I have a twelve foot long, fringed scarf for my Mina outfit.

The hat project is... I'm not sure what it is, honestly. I have one completed hat, but I don't know if I like it for this outfit. I have another almost completed mini hat which is cute, but awfully small. Maybe I'll feel better about one or both hats when the hot-glue blisters on my thumbs go down.

Ow.
