  • The song "Flowers in the Window" by Travis.

  • Speaking of flowers, tulip and daffodil leaves are pushing up through the mulch around the tree in our yard.

  • The song "Slowburner" by The Proclaimers.

  • Speaking of slow, I'm sloooowly getting better at the ukulele. Oh so slowly, but it's coming along. I might even be able to play for other people by Ravenstreet Beach Week time.

  • The song "This is not an Exit" by Beecake. (Yes, I'm in a Glaswegian band mood.)

  • Speaking of exits, no wait... that doesn't work as a transition here. Anyway, my orthodontist is VERY pleased with the movement of my teeth and can tell I've been particular about wearing the rubber bands. Today's verdict was "Not much longer; I know you're feeling impatient." Plus, I made the last payment on my braces today.

  • The song "Just Like a Chap" by Mr.B the Gentleman Rhymer. (Egad, I want a banjolele, like whoa.)

  • There is sunlight when I leave the office. It doesn't quite outweigh the indignity of Daylight Saving Time, but it takes some of the edge off.

I'm halfway through my final assignment of week one -- critiques of four classmates' work -- and had to take a quick break to giggle at Hubbyfink. He's watching "Cool Fuel" on Planet Green which follows a team of Aussies as they drive around America in vehicles which don't use gasoline. In tonight's episode, the team is driving a Hummer which runs on food. They started off in New Orleans and loaded it up with beignets -- which broke my heart, I guarantee -- for the drive to Texas.

When they stopped at a restaurant somewhere in the wilds of Louisiana, Hubbyfink pulled me into the show. "What accent is that guy speaking? Is that even English??" I listened for a second or two. Cajun. "Can you understand what he's saying??" I hit the rewind button and then translated Cajun to English for Hubbyfink until I got tripped up by a long string of words. Happily, the closed captioning deciphered what I could not.

Of course, then they went on to talk about crawfish and etouffe and I got all reminiscent and lip-smacky. Mmmm... crawfish.

You know, if I were a patient person and had more time to practice, I might eventually become good at this stuff. Hubbyfink's been very supportive in keeping my spirits up when I feel like I suck. I've been practicing each exercise several times and the study which he likes the most is the one I post to my class. So far that's worked out okay, but I'll find out for sure when the first week's grades are posted this weekend.

This week's projects. )

So. Hubbyfink and I are watching "Blue Planet: Seas of Life" and there was a bit where a crab ate a starfish and was then pounced upon and eaten by an octopus. I turned to Hubbyfink and exclaimed, "It's like a seafood turducken!"

Do people even eat starfish? I can't imagine there's much worth eating... Nevermind. I just remembered that Samantha Brown ate a fried starfish on a stick when she was in China. The "Bizarre Foods" guy has probably choked one or two down as well.

And? Baby squid are freaking adorable! Adult squid give me the willies in the worst way, but newly-hatched, not-quite-sure-how-to-swim-yet baby squid? Too cute for words.

It's on

Aw, yeah. I'm getting me some camo pants and boots for this one. Coworkers have suggested neck protection for the Hubbyfink.

I hope it doesn't rain this year.

Simply by finding an mp3 of Sarah Silverman's "I'm [bleeping] Matt Damon". Muahahahaha! That, along with The Gourd's cover of Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice" and a bluegrass version of AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long" should make Hubbyfink squirm during the ride up to Pennsic land grab next weekend.

Muahahaha.
