I've now seen whiteout conditions and I don't want to experience them again. I'm halfway expecting to dig Jack Nicholson out of one of the snowbanks lining the front walk when we're able to escape our home. Any minute now, I will start typing "All work and no play make Melanie a dull girl". Hubbyfink made the mistake of saying "yes" when I asked if we have an axe.

In less ominous news, I have a pot of spicy chili simmering on the stove. It was looking a little too thin so I tossed a couple tablespoons of flour in to make it more roux-like. Now it's almost perfect. While I may not like to cook, I suppose I'm not too bad at it. Plus, some of the knowledge from all those cooking shows I watch must've slipped into the ol' brainmeats. Neat!

Last night's homework assignment did not go well. I've been playing with Google SketchUp in my copious free time by building 3D models of our basement floor (and impressing the pants off Hubbyfink in the process), so I've gotten pretty good at house models. Furniture models? Not so much. After six hours of work I was finally able to create a decent virtual turned wood leg for a sofa and soften the edges of sofa cushions. I still can't build the spindly armrests. *grump* If tonight's conference call ends on time, I'll join the live classroom conference and learn how to do these fancy things.

As I stated on Facebook, Hubbyfink now has stylin' snowboard pants and I have ski pants on order. This should ensure that the SNOMG heading towards DC will give us a miss.

You're welcome.

National Weather Service has upped the snow accumulation amount for tomorrow and replaced the Winter Storm Watch with a Winter Storm Warning.

Details below the fold. )

I cleared most of the snow off Jeepfink, but it still has a bit of a snow 'fro. My arms got tired, what can I say? There is SO much snow between the cars and the street. And on the sides of the vehicles. Ugh. I think the Prius is staying put until the spring thaw.

Hubbyfink bundled back up and we walked through the neighborhood to check the condition of the streets. The guy at the Sherwood end of the street has a tree on his car. He thinks the car is probably okay because of all the cushioning snow on it. Poor dude.

The good news is that our neighborhood streets and Greenthorne are plowed, if slick, and the boulevard looks like it's merely damp at this point. The bad news is that there is a LOT of snow between the cars and the road. I guess I'll bundle up after lunch and get back to shoveling.

The Big Dig

Hubbyfink has cleared the front stoop and walk. The snow walls on either side of the walk are impressive. He did not dig the vehicles out yet so as to stave off a stroke. Good Hubbyfink. I'll bundle up in a bit and start tackling the cars -- if only to get a bit of physical exertion -- while he rakes the yard snow back towards the house so we don't have to throw car snow over a wall. We're going to walk up to Greenthorn and Sterling Boulevard to see how the main drag looks. I'm pretty sure that Hubbyfink will be home tomorrow, and I had already planned on telecommuting Monday.

The best part? We're due for more snow Tuesday/Wednesday.

I Skype'd Mom and Pete this afternoon to give them a tour of the Snowpocalypse. They were duly impressed. My mother reminded me of the one provision I had forgotten: condensed milk. No snow cream for us for at least a few days. Oh, snap! Most online recipes don't call for condensed milk. I'm making snow cream with 1c milk, 1/2c sugar, 1/2tsp vanilla extract, and about 3qt of snow. Wheee!

Hubbyfink dug a path to the heat pump condenser and cleared snow from around and on top of the unit. We have not yet begun to fight dig a path to the buried cars. Tomorrow is, after all, another day.

I've completed today's homework which was building a ground floor plan in three dimensions with doors and windows in Google SketchUp. Hubbyfink kept oohing and aahing over my shoulder.

We're down to our last kitchen trash bag! I told Hubbyfink he would have to brave the damp streets and raving crowds at CVS to get more bags.

'Fink: We have super duper industrial bags in the basement.
Me: They're black and will clash with the kitchen decor. Plus, they're too big to fit in the trash can.
'Fink: Why do we have to put the bag in the trash can?
I point at Margie, who is transfixed at the storm door watching the snow fall.
'Fink: I'll duct tape her paws together and prop her in a corner somewhere.

In other news, strawberry daiquiri goodness is chilling in the freezer. =)

Hubbyfink expressed concern over the drift which was piling against our front door and decided to take action should we need to leave the house in a hurry. We bundled up and he shoveled the stoop and walk while I tormented the cats by pulling them into the snow. Margie and Basil were NOT pleased and immediately bolted back inside.

The snow in the yard is about 14 inches deep and the drifts next to the cars are over 20 inches. That's the height of my knees! Crazy. ) We just stuck our heads back out the front door and there's a fresh inch of snow covering everything Hubbyfink shoveled 45 minutes ago.

WOOOOOO!

There's a fairly big drift in front of the door and a foot of snow on the sidewalk. This is AWESOME! )
